What is Oxandrolone

Oxandrolone (also be found as Oxandrin) is a man-made synthetic anabolic steroid known under the trademark Anavar. This steroid is similar to the natural male steroid testosterone, which is responsible for the development of the male genitals, muscles and bones. Oxandrolone was first manufactured by Searle Laboratories (now Pfizer Inc.) and it is believed that this steroid causes least health issues of all steroids ever produced.

Both men and women use Oxandrolone to gain strength, muscle mass and to increase in size. However, its primary use is to regain lost weight after a serious trauma, extensive surgery or after a chronic infection. The steroid is also prescribed in patients who cannot naturally achieve or maintain normal body weight. Oxandrolon also brings other benefits such as reducing muscle loss caused by a specific treatment, or reducing bone pain caused by osteoporosis. There are other purposes but they are not medically listed.

Some advantages of using Oxandrolon over other steroids are that this drug doesn’t convert to estrogen, and it doesn’t have noticeable influence on the body’s normal testosterone production, if used in low dosages.

How to use Oxandrolone

Oxandrolone comes in form of a tablet which be administered orally (taken by mouth) usually 2 to 4 times per day, and is used for only a few weeks. A doctor’s approval is mandatory if one intends to use this drug for a longer period of time, or more frequently than indicated. The drug is often used by both women athletes as well as by male bodybuilders. Usually, bodybuilders stack it with other drugs to increase its effectiveness, however, doing so without doctor’s approval might cause serious side effects.

The dosage one should take varies depending on personal tolerance to the drug and overall physical condition. High doses of 100 mg and over are prescribed for patients with a disease or after a surgery. Male bodybuilders, for instance, can take about 20 to 100 mg for everyday cycle. For women it is recommended a dose of maximum 20mg.

One should not take more than advised; otherwise, serious risk of side effects appearance is possible. Oxandrolon is usually taken on an empty stomach. If/when stomach pains occur, it can be taken with food. To get maximum effects of this steroid, it is necessary to take it regularly, approximately at the same time each day. If one dose is missed, then the best is to take it as soon as possible, however if it’s almost the time for the next dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at once!

Side effects of Oxandrolone

If administered correctly, respecting the dosage and time frames, most people will never have serious side effects; nevertheless caution should be used. The following side effects are the most common for both men and women: headache, nausea, vomiting, hair loss, decreased or increased sex drive, acne etc.

Side effects characteristic to males include: breast swelling, prolonged erection (rarely occurs), trouble urinating or even decreased sperm production.

Side effects characteristic to females include: unusual body and/or facial hair growth, deepening of the voice, clitoris enlargement as well as irregular menstrual periods. Oxandrolone can also lead to mood changes and problems sleeping (insomnia).
